  • A PRAYER FOR THE UKRAINE CONFLICT

Loving God, We pray for the people of Ukraine, for all those suffering or afraid, that you will be close to them and protect them. We pray for world leaders, for compassion, strength and wisdom to guide their choices. We pray for the world that in this moment of crisis, we may reach out in solidarity to our brothers and sisters in need. • Sacrament of Reconciliation

Parishes in our deanery won't be holding a service of reconciliation before Christmas this year. However, should you want to, you could attend services at other churches within driving range. John Farrell has kindly undertaken some research into this and I reproduce his findings below. With a rapidly changing pandemic situation, the arrangements below could well be subject to change. CAFOD convened an online conversation recently with Christopher Lamb, Rome Correspondent for The Tablet, to hear about why it is critical for all of us to participate in the synodal process in our parishes later this year: watch it here. It’s worth a watch if you want to learn about the Synod before conversations in our parishes commence. Please do feel free to share with your parish.

  • Going Down the Synodal path is crucial for the survival of the church

Thomas O'Loughlin (born 1958, Dublin) is Professor of Historical Theology at the University of Nottingham. He earned a BA, MPhil, PhD (NUI), STB (Maynooth) and DD hon.c (Bangor). Tom studied for his BA in Philosophy and Medieval History in UCD, before going to Maynooth College for his BD(STB), before moving on to do a M.Phi in UCD. He holds a Diploma in Theology from Mater Dei in Dublin, and Diploma in Pastoral Theology from All Hallows College, Dublin. This fascinating talk provides a historical context to why the church developed a top down rather that ground up model. He explains where the term ordination comes from and provides as new model . He explained that people are asking how we will get people back to Mass - when the real question is how can we gather people together and help them be eucharistic.
